The Recursive AI Method
What it is
The Recursive AI Method is the practice of running three named recursions on every substantive AI session, so the first AI answer becomes the starting position rather than the end of the work. Output recursion feeds AI’s answer back to AI with a sharper question: what is missing, what would a sceptic say, what is the second-best version. Process recursion turns AI on the leader’s own prompting: what was I assuming, what was the question behind my question. Practice recursion asks AI on a Friday to read back the week’s conversation log and surface patterns the leader could not see from inside the week.

Why it happens with AI
Single-pass AI use plateaus quickly because nothing it produces sharpens what comes next. The prompts in week twelve look like the prompts in week one, the outputs are equivalently competent, and the leader’s judgement about when to trust AI has not grown because it has not been tested. Skipping the recursions feels efficient in the moment, since the marginal time saving is visible and the marginal quality loss is not.
What working on it does, impact and benefits
Run consistently, the three recursions compound. Output recursion makes any single session deeper; process recursion makes the next session start sharper; practice recursion makes the next week start more deliberate. Over a quarter, twelve sets of patterns are surfaced and twelve adjustments made.
